Ingredients:
Ribs:
• 2 racks of pork baby back ribs (about 4 lbs)
• Salt and pepper to taste
Marinade:
• 1/2 cup Wakey Wakey hot sauce
• 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
• 1/4 cup honey
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1/4 cup ketchup
• 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
• 1 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
BBQ Sauce:
• 1/2 cup Wakey Wakey hot sauce
• 1/2 cup ketchup
• 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons honey
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
• Salt and pepper to taste
Recipe:
1. Prepare the Ribs:
Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs for more tender meat. Season the ribs with salt and pepper on both sides.
2. Make the Marinade:
In a large bowl, whisk together the Wakey Wakey hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, soy sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, smoked paprika, ground cumin, onion powder, ground black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
Place the ribs in a large resealable plastic bag or a deep dish and pour the marinade over the ribs. Ensure the ribs are well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
3. Preheat the Grill or Oven:
Preheat your grill to medium-low heat (about 250°F) or preheat your oven to 300°F.
4. Cook the Ribs:
If using a grill, set it up for indirect cooking. Place the ribs on the grill, bone-side down, over indirect heat. Close the lid and cook for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
If using an oven, place the ribs on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Cover the ribs with another piece of foil and bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
5. Make the BBQ Sauce:
While the ribs are cooking, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a saucepan, combine the Wakey Wakey hot sauce, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it cook for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
6. Glaze and Finish the Ribs:
During the last 30 minutes of cooking, baste the ribs with the BBQ sauce. If grilling, move the ribs over direct heat for a few minutes on each side to caramelize the sauce, being careful not to burn them. If baking, remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 375°F. Baste the ribs and cook uncovered for the remaining 30 minutes.
7. Serve:
Remove the ribs from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Slice between the bones to separate the ribs. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
Flavor Profile:
These Wakey Wakey BBQ Pork Ribs combine the smoky, sweet, and spicy flavors into a mouth-watering dish. The hot sauce adds a bold kick, while the honey and brown sugar provide a perfect balance of sweetness, and the apple cider vinegar adds a tangy depth.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve these ribs with classic BBQ sides like coleslaw, cornbread, baked beans, or a fresh green salad. Pair with a cold beer or a refreshing iced tea to complete the meal.
Enjoy making these unique and flavorful Wakey Wakey BBQ Pork Ribs, a dish that’s sure to become a favorite at your next BBQ or family dinner.
